The WAG Code of Conduct
It’s not easy being a WAG. No, really, it isn’t. Whether the WAG happens to be an established celebrity or just your average girl-next-door every one of them will get the undivided attention of the paparazzi if snapped on a footballers arm. While some embellish this, purchasing hair extensions and rapidly shrinking size before the camera, others don’t.
To many the label ‘WAG’ is considered a swear word and they’d much prefer to shrink away from the camera. Whatever reaction they may have to their new-found status of WAG they must learn to follow the rules of the WAGs in order to survive.
Keep hold of your man. Any good WAG will know the importance of being on the ball. Sporting stars are vulnerable to those who will make a sport out of them; legendary predator Rebecca Loo’s should be enough of a warning. WAGs should be constantly on guard for their man playing away, maybe overly suspicious, perhaps a little distrusting, but if Golden Balls can do it, any man can. Cheryl Cole was one of the unfortunate who fully believed her player wouldn’t be a player. But all it takes is one simple equation. Too much champagne + attractive blonde = infidelity. With an athletic physique and wads of cash these males have more potential than average men to get laid. WAGs should keep sharpened manicured nails if they don’t want their man to play away.
Prepare for fashion battle. WAGs at a match have planned what to wear more than the players have discussed team tactics. Guaranteed these girls will be cheering the lads on with fresh faces preened curls and oversized handbags. For those who feel like an outcast in the WAGs presence the simple code is as follows; to get in with the crowd you have to dress like Girl’s Aloud. A baggy footy shirt over a pair of jeans will not quite cut it unless you’re trying to embarrass the WAG crew. Girls who need guidance should look to WAG Queen Mrs Victoria Beckham herself. Bronzed with not an inch of cellulite in sight Victoria can always put the rest to shame. Modeling a pout and keeping a composed posture at all costs she shows how you can put an interest in football without having to be interested in it. Being fashionable is a must, but WAGs are not to upstage their Queen. Any Jodie Marsh attempts at hitting headlines in an outrageous dress or with a new boob job will only end in isolation. WAGs: know your limits!
Get your own career. Yes, even WAGs are now expected to work. We have moved on from the Cave WAG days where they were merely ladies of leisure who looked attractive next to a famous footballer. WAGs are now in business battling it out to show their worth. Launches of perfumes, work-out videos, charity campaigns and modeling show your modern day WAG earning her own little wager on the side. An independent WAG is truly a happy one. If Coleen ever fancies the day of leaving Rooney she can, with her own self-built empire she has earned a celebrity status in her own right. Coleen has launched her own clothing range at George at Asda, written her own autobiography, done much charity work for The Rett Syndrome Association, presents reality TV show Coleen’s Real Women, regularly writes a column for Closer and hosted plenty of fashion awards. Her counterpart however, can only kick a ball. Education is an important tool to any WAG if they don’t want their knowledge to be limited to shopping. Many WAGs has lead good examples to young girls with achieving high grades and qualifications at school. Emma Hadfield, wife of Gary Neville, is a student in holistic therapy and Stewart Downing’s former flame Michaela Henderson-Thynne is studying for a degree in law. Good work WAGs!
Stay strong in the face of a scandal. The media are ruthless; any dark secret they can drag from your past will be brought out in broad daylight and flogged. Any naïve statement will be plastered all over the news the next day. Lesson? Tred with caution. Danielle Lloyd got accused of cheating in Miss Great Britain 2006 after letting slip to Eve magazine that she had been dating footballer and judge of contest Teddy Sheringham. D’oh! The media backlash was not pretty, with headlines accusing Danielle of being “Miss Cheat Britain.” Not a good one for your CV. Danielle was stripped of her crown in November 2006 – nine months after winning. The air was cleared however after a court case where the interview was said to be misunderstood. Though it ends well, it still seems like a load of tiaras and tears over nothing. You would have thought after the terrible ordeal of losing her beauty crown Danielle would learn to be wary when it came to the press. Nope. The former Miss Britain put her stiletto heel in it again by appearing on Celebrity Big Brother. Being accused of racism alongside Jade Goody and Jo O’Meara towards the Bollywood beauty Shilpa Shetty Danielle had only managed to put herself in the stocks once again. If there was ever a WAG not to follow this would be the one ladies!

The Horrors behind Honour
A young girl meets a British solider in Basra, it was instant attraction from the moment they met and after several encounters the young girl dreamed about the day they would marry.
A typical fairytale right? That is until her father catches her openly talking to her admirer. He suffocated the young girl to death before brutually attacking her with a knife, he then buried his daughter in an unmarked grave where her uncles spat on it in disgust.
This is for honour.
The young girl was Rand Abdel-Qader, she was only 17 years old. This devastating tale is far from isolated, this is only one of the number of ‘honour’ killings taking place today, which campaigners are calling the genocide of Iraq’s women. More than 15 women a month are killed in Basra for breaching Islamic code, this repressing code can sentence you to death for forgetting to wear a veil or talking to another man.
A fortnight ago a well-respected journalist, Begard Huseein, 27, was stabbed to death by her estranged husband in Erbil. Her crime? Behaving ‘immorally’ with another man.
After Saddam Hussein’s tyrannical regime the lives of Iraq women have become considerably worse. Self immolation (suicide through burning) is rising because these women are left with no choice. Iraq women are being imprisoned, crippled and killed in the name of religion. A faith which is meant to promote peace, hope and love.
A disturbing element of this is that the issue still remains taboo in the public domain. There are only a few organisations that are set up to help the problem. One of these is the establishment of a unit by the Internal Ministry unit in Kurdistan. It was set up in memory of Du’a Khalil Aswad, a 17 year old from nineveh who was stoned in front of a mob of 2,000 men. Unbelieveably this even included the police and her own relatives.
When is this repressive regime going to stop? And further more when will religion stop being the justification for these horrific and immoral acts? My teachings of the bible may be slightly different in practice but the fundamental principle remains the same and nothing in the bible states that innocent people should die for following their heart.
It’s time Britian should be made aware of the horrors of honour killing, it is not a case of out of sight out of mind. These horrific killings happen in Britain too, behind closed doors where these young womens lives are swept under the carpet. Justice is never served.

Are women more conniving in the work place?
Reality TV addicts will all know of the underhand tactics employed in the lastest additon of BBC One’s The Apprentice, where Sir Alan Sugar fired not one but two women.
It was blood thirsty moment when Jenny, Claire and Sara mercilessly backstabbed one another in the desperate bid to win Sir Alan’s approval. This incident does not stand alone, female fire has been breathed throughout the entire series leaving the male contestants in the shadows.
Is this a new breed of women in the workplace? And if so how did it come about? Were they already ruthless and manipulative titans ready to be released? Or has the pressures and expectations of the working industry started an evolution, where women must play mental games and use dirty tactics in the fight for survivial?
Former contestant Jennifer Maguire was labelled ‘a snake’ by her other team mates. Jennifer Maguire told the BBC that it was these comments which killed her passion for winning the TV show. She said: “Comments about me being cold and evil and a snake - that’s all very personal. After I had people accuse me of being like that, my heart wasn’t in it any more.” To read more of the interview visit

The main question to ask here is if these women are more conniving then where have these women developed their tactics from? If they are devious surely they have only adapted to their surroundings, learning the rules of the game from the men. As women have a bitch about the new employee behind their back guaranteed the men will be ripping the same employee to shreds at a local pub.
It could well be termed another gender difference. How easy would it be to say that Men are from Mars and Women are from a planet that bitches alot? However you cannot overlook that scheming and plotting is just another method to get by in any office by men and women.
In a challenging and competitve atomsphere of The Apprentice where there is everything to play for (not only reputation but also quite a nice double figure salary) then you can hardly blame contestants for raising the stakes. While women may be the sly snakes of the grass men are the brass bulls of the field, bulldozing down obstacles in their way.
For males it’s a dog eat dog world, the odd catfight won’t make the slightest bit of difference.

The City has just got Sexy: Sex And The City movie launch
It’s been four years since they graced our screens with designer shoes, excessive spending and sexual antics. Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Kim have been stored away in the dark for far too long and this May 28th we can finally welcome them back in their full reigning glory in the Sex And The City The Movie.
The four fashionitas were rumoured to have handbags at dawn behind the scenes, so what has finally persuaded them to do a whole movie together? Sarah Jessica Parker told Grazia magazine: “There just came a point when I thought it was now or never. I don’t think it would’ve been right to do it on the heels of the TV show. We got a much better story now.”
If you’re a Sex And The City fan as I’am then the movie release as not come a moment to soon. Although the season finale ended with Carrie in Mr Big’s arms I, among others, wasn’t convinced the fairytale strong enough to last. Mr Big’s sudden commitment was a convincing as David Cleaver’s from Bridget Jones.
Hopefully the movie will seal the deal on the relationship reassuring us all is well in the city that never sleeps. We are not just holding our breath in the love department but in the fashion department too, Carrie is bound to pull out some surprising pieces out the wardrobe, Sarah Jessica Parker tells Grazia: “There’s some Vivienne Westwood collection, plus there are some of Pat Field’s outrageous choices. But I’d never wear alot of Carrie’s clothes in real life.”
A sigh of relief all round then. Stylists have nit picked Carrie and the crews latest trend choices and we can safely say the results are not pretty. The fashion icon looks like she’s the victim of a designers war, being draped and wrapped in a jumble of catwalk trends. The outfits might be intending to scream out the powerful and proud persona of the movie’s characters but this falls flatter on it’s face than Miranda tottering in wedges.
Fashion flaws, behind the scene claws just add to the appeal of this highly anticipated event. So grab a tub of Ben & Jerry’s and nab a couple of friends, this screening is the perfect girlie flick.
